Dry Rot

Dry rot is wood decay caused by certain species of fungi that digest parts of the wood which should give the wood its strength and stiffness. The term dry rot is somewhat misleading, as both species of dry rot fungi require an elevated moisture content to initiate an attack on timber.

Dry rot can be very difficult to remediate unless all of the decayed wood and spores are removed. Russell and Sons apply Sovereign Fungicidal Wall Solution Extra (FWS Extra) for the eradication of Dry Rot in both masonry and timber. FWS Extra contains two active ingredients to give rapid and visible results. Being a micro emulsion it will give deeper penetration than conventional products.

Wet Rot

Wet rot is a generic term used to define a variety of fungal species, such as Coniophora Puteana, otherwise known as cellar fungus. Wet rot fungi obtain their food by breaking down the wood cells resulting in a loss of strength of the wood, which in turn can lead to problems of structural integrity. To stop the spread of wet rot, Russell and Sons employ Sovereign Chemicals Sovaq Dual Purpose treatment. Sovaq Dual Purpose is used to prevent and eradicate fungal attack of timbers. It is also used to prevent and eradicate infestations of wood boring insects and also prevent the occurrence of wood staining fungi. Sovaq Dual Purpose is suitable for use on internal and external hard and soft woods such as joinery timbers, floorboards and roofing timbers.

Insect Attack Treatment

Woodworm is the wood-eating larvae of many species of beetle. Signs of woodworm usually consist of holes in the wooden item, with live infestations showing powder known as frass, around the holes. The size of the holes varies, but are typically 1mm to 1.5mm in diameter for the most common household species. Adult beetles which emerged from the wood may also be found in the summer months.

To eradicate woodworm and other wood boring insects, Russell and Sons apply Sovereign Sovaq Dual Purpose treatment and also Sovereign Deepkill Timber Paste. Deepkill Timer Paste is a deep penetrating cream emulsion, perfect for use on thick sectioned timbers. It can be used on all types of timber including floorboards, roofing timbers and furniture. Deepkill Timer Paste can be used as a curative system when attack is active or as a preventative measure to guard against future outbreaks. this quality Sovereign product protects against wood boring insects, termites and rot and is suitable for internal and external use.
